Read Scott Raab and a Newer Me... Opinionated About the All-Star Games

I got a few suggestions from friends and family about what I should write about and a few changes that can be made to the blog. I hope you like the brighter and easier to read links/text and of course my newer content.

As I had said before that I didn't want to harp on the LeBron James saga of how much of a whiny little girl he is and how he is trying to act all cool and nonchalant now that his team's season is over. But that was before this article was brought to my attention. The link is long but the article is not, and certainly worth a read. Scott Raab who's book The Whore of Akron: One Man's Search for the Soul of LeBron James looks to be an excellent read for all of us LeBron haters and has just made my amazon book wish list. Just based of the article and the title of his book Raab looks to be a regular sports fan like me who just had enough with the dramatization of free agency and the showboating that went along with "The Decision" and the whole "New Big Three" season in South Beach. As a history teacher this kind of book really validates the Bill of Rights and Freedom of Speech in such a great way. I was told to be more opinionated and less news reporter, so here goes nothing.
One of the biggest things in sports today that bothers me is the All-Star game voting. Not just for the MLB but for all sports that have fan voting. I like the fact that I can have something to do with who gets voted into the starting lineup but most fans are not nearly as vigilant to how players are performing as I am. Excuse me but Yao has not been good or healthy for 3 years and even if there are 1.2 billion people in China they should understand that this is not a popularity contest but it is to display and honor the best of the best for THAT season (or half of it). Derek Jeter is not having a good season yet he is one of the top vote getters at shortstop this season. Why? Because he has the name and plays for the New York Yankees. I implore people NOT to vote for him, Asdrubal Cabrera of the lesser market Cleveland Indians is having twice as good of a season and deserves the nod over Jeter and the less of the American League candidates for this year's All-Star Game. I'll give you proof: Jeter is hitting .260 with 39 Runs scored, 2 Home Runs, 20 Runs Batted In, and 7 Stolen Bases while Cabrera is hitting .297 with 41 Runs scored, 12 Home Runs, 43 Runs Batted In, and 9 Stolen Bases. And by the way, Cabrera is 2nd in AL SS in Average, Runs scored, 1st in Home Runs and RBIs, and 3rd in Stolen Bases (1st in percentage as he is 9 for 9).

This is just one of the many issues there are with the process, if you have another one you would like to discuss please post a comment and I will be sure to respond. Same goes for issues/arguments/comments on my ballot, I'd love to hear yours as well.
My ballots are as follows:
AL- Catcher- Detroit Tigers Alex Avila, 1st Base- Boston Red Sox Adrian Gonzalez, 2nd Base- New York Yankees Robinson Cano, Shortstop- Cleveland Indians Asdrubal Cabrera, 3rd Base- Boston Red Sox Kevin Youkilis, Outfield- Toronto Blue Jays Jose Bautista, Outfield- Boston Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury, Outfield- New York Yankees Curtis Granderson and DH- Boston Red Sox David Ortiz
This is very AL East heavy but truth is, numbers don't lie and these are the best at their position (yes I took 2 CFs but Granderson can play left).
NL- Catcher-Arizona Diamondbacks Miguel Montero, 1st Base- Cincinnati Reds Joey Votto, 2nd Base- Milwaukee Brewers Rickie Weeks, Shortstop- New York Mets Jose Reyes, 3rd Base- Cincinnati Reds Scott Rolen, Outfielder- Cincinnati Reds Jay Bruce, Outfielder- Houston Astro Hunter Pence, Outfielder- Florida Marlins Mike Stanton.
Okay so I picked Rolen mostly because the normal 3rd Base studs (Zimmerman and Wright) have been hurt. I also chose Stanton mostly because of his monster home runs and the fact that he is on my fantasy team, so yeah, bias all the way.
