Mav's Do It Again, Huff Brings Gifts and Old Rivals Meet Once Again On Clay

What a game last night! Dallas' come back was so furious and unexpected that even Dirk Nowitzki seemed impressed and surprised at the latest heroics he and the Mavericks displayed. Dirk scored the last 9 points for the Mavs who rallied late in the 4th from 15 points down to end the game on a 22-5 run on their way to a 95-93 stunner in Miami. The Mavericks just had no quit in them and even with his injured left hand, Dirk made two late lefty baskets to finish 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Unlike Game 1, Jason Terry showed up in the 4th quarter, scoring 8 of his 16 points. Shawn Marion also chipped in with 20 points and 8 rebounds. On the other side, Dwayne Wade exploded for 36 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks but only took two long forced 3 point heaves in the last 6 minutes, while their lead disappeared. Chris Bosh reverted to his early season form as he scored 12 points on 4 for 16 shooting. LeBron also chipped in 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the losing effort. Both my predictions were wrong so far, and since I am rooting for the Mavericks, I'll give them some help by picking Miami in Game 3 Sunday at 8pm on ABC 100-94.

Only 7 MLB games were played yesterday, highlighted by the New York Mets coming back from 7 runs down to win 9-8 at home vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates to split the 4 game series. San Francisco exploded for 12 runs led by Aubrey Huff's 3 home runs to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 12-7 who were lead by Colby Rasmus' 6 RBI's, most of which came on his grand slam off of Guillermo Mota. The best pitching match-up of the night became one-sided very quickly as Felix Hernandez out-pitched James Shields as the Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-1. King Felix went 7 strong innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks while striking out 11.

The Men's Semifinals at the French Open were today and the first match wasn't really much of a challenge for the best player in the world on clay. Rafael Nadal made pretty quick work of Andy Murray 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. Nadal still has only lost 1 match at Roland Garros, and now he will meet his old arch-rival, Roger Federer. Federer outlasted Novak Djokovic 7-6, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 to end Djokovic's 41 match winning streak and dash his hopes at taking over the world's number 1 ranking on Sunday. The Final will be played Sunday at 9am EST on NBC.

Sukanya Roy won the 84th Scripps National Spelling Bee last night by spelling the winning word, cymotrichous.(I love how the spell check says it's not a word!) Roy who is 14 from South Abington Township, PA walked away with the trophy and more than $40,000 in cash and prizes last night as it was televised on ESPN.

Biggest Winner of the Night: While I tossed this over in my mind more than 10 times, waffling back and forth between Dirk and the eventual  winner,  I ended up picking Aubrey Huff. Who, after being asked to hit a home run for his wife, Baubi on her birthday, tripled the request by going yard three times last night as he ended the game 4 for 5 smacking 3 home runs and driving in 6 runs. Huff after the game said that it “scored major brownie points”.
Biggest Loser of the Night: Chris Bosh, who was no help at all to the Heat last night as he went 4 for 16 from the field scoring 12 points while gathering in 8 rebounds as the Heat fell late to the Mavericks 95-93.

  1. Bosh is terrible. He was the best player on a bad team in Toronto and cashed in. Miami is two and a half men (my Charlie Sheen reference for the day) and will not win the championship (hopefully).
