A Busy Fourth and a Busier Fifth!

What a busy day back from the 4th of July celebrations! Women's World Cup had 4 games this afternoon, Casey Anthony was found not guilty in murdering her child 3 years ago and Albert Pujols was activated off the DL (but will not start tonight) for the Cardinals weeks ahead of schedule, and thats all before 5pm! Let's just quickly rundown the holiday yesterday.

Joey Wins Mustard Belt- tucsoncitizen.com
Joey Chestnut won his 5th straight Mustard Belt at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest and for the first time ever they separated the sexes and created a women's eating group which Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas won easily for the pink version of the Mustard Belt. Surf and Stillwell was buzzing with over 50,000 people showing up for this years contest and celebrations. We even had for the first time ever Chinese competitors but still no Takeru Kobayashi who tried to take away some of the news by unofficially eating 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes in a separate competition. Apparently he still has not signed a contract with Major League Eating and will not compete until he does so. But not to sully the day, Chestnut downed 62 dogs in the 10 minutes for the men and Thomas scarfed down 40 in 10 minutes on the women's side. Patrick Bertoletti gave Chestnut a great push but could not keep up with Joey for the whole 10 minutes finishing with 53 hot dogs eaten.

MLB was in full swing as well and saw three shutouts including two 1-0 shutouts on the holiday with Brian Duensing of the Twins tossing a complete game 6-hitter to beat the Rays 7-0, Vance Worley going 7 strong to lead the Phillies to a 1-0 win over the Marlins and Chris Carpenter continued his roll with 8 shutout innings against divison rival Reds to keep the Cardinals in first place. Elsewhere Derek Jeter came back from the DL 6 hits shy of 3,000 career hits but went 0 for 4 in Cleveland.

And as I had said today (July 5th), saw 4 Women's World Cups played with the English side winning Group B after defeating 2nd place team Japan 2-0 while Mexico collapsed late to go home winless at the World Cup tying New Zealand 2-0 who scored in the 90th and 94th minute to salvage a point, the first ever for New Zealand in the World Cup. In Group A host country Germany played well but was battled the whole way by a resilient French side who even with 10 players after a red card to their goalie, kept the pressure on but Germany won the group and the game 4-2. France also advances in 2nd place while Nigeria defeated Canada who did not record a point for the first time in their World Cup history, 1-0.

Biggest Winner of the Day: Joey Chestnut! Who said eating wasn't a sport?! Chestnut downed 62 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, while it was 6 off of his world record it was still enough to blow away the competition and win his 5th straight Mustard Belt in Coney Island, NY.

Casey Anthony in Court- mediabistro.com

Biggest Loser of the Day: American Criminal Justice System, I didn't follow the Casey Anthony Trial as closely as many other people but from what I had read and seen this seemed pretty obvious that this woman was guilty of at least child abuse if not first-degree murder of her 2 year old daughter, Caylee. She was acquitted of those charges Tuesday 3 years after the fact and was only charged with 4 counts of lying to investigators, which when convicted could bring a year of incarceration with it, but since she has been in jail since 2008 she would in fact walk free. Just makes me sick to my stomach, some people should not procreate, simple enough, and there are other options if you do not want your child (adoption for instance) rather than murder.
